"God's fingers touched him, and he slept". Abdul Bakour, 58, ascended to meet his Maker on the 6th of July, 2018 at Jupiter Medical Center, Jupiter, FL, surrounded by his wife, Houda and his nieces: Nahida and Ghada Dergham. Abdul was born on May 13, 1960 in Yabroud, Syria. His journey lead him to Burlington, VT where he met the love of his life, Houda El Baradhe. They were married on August 20, 1981. Abdul attended Saint Michael's College then graduated from UVM with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering. The love of family brought Abdul and Houda to Plattsburgh, NY where they owned and operated BMC. Abdul was hired by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Rouses Point, NY and finally found his home with GE Health of Burlington, VT. Abdul and Houda's journey continued. Once again, the love of family brought them to Jupiter, FL. Abdul was an avid golfer and poker player, a kind, loving and generous soul who, through his quiet, private deeds, helped in the survival of refugees of his beloved, war-torn country, Syria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hammoud & Nayfe Bakour and his brothers: Suhail & Muneer Bakour. Abdul is survived by his love, best friend and soulmate, Houda Bakour of Jupiter, FL; his siblings: Shamseh Hamod Bakour of Histambul, Turkey, Tayseer & Mahmoud Bakour; nieces, nephews and families: Raghida, Ibrahim, Nahida, Nadim, Ghada and Rhonda Dergham. A gathering will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:30 am at Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave., Burlington, VT His Funeral, in the Islamic Tradition, will follow at the Islamic Society of VT Mosque, 182 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, VT. 05446 at 1pm. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Burlington, VT. Family and friends will gather at Big Sal's Restaurant, 6050 RT. 22, Plattsburgh, NY at 6 pm. Due to Muslim tradition, women attending the prayer service in Burlington are asked to dress modestly. Long dresses, skirts or long, pants and shirts with arms covered are acceptable and heads should also be covered. In lieu of flowers, donations to RahmaRelief.org would be what Abdul would have treasured. "Grief is the price we pay for love". Rest In Peace, Abdul.
