Albina M St Germain

February 5, 1911 — December 23, 2019

Albina M. St. Germain, 108, formerly of Robert S. Long Apartments passed away Monday, December 23, 2019 at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. She was born in Saranac, NY on February 5, 1911 the daughter of Joseph and Anna (DeFayette) Archambault. Albina married David St. Germain on July 9, 1933 at Church of the Assumption in Redford, NY. She worked for many years as a nurses aid, and later as a ward clerk at CVPH Medical Center on the maternity floor, retiring in 1975. Albina loved to travel and had the good fortune to visit several different countries including: France, Italy, Great Britain, Ireland, Mexico and Canada. Her most treasured memory was her pilgrimage to the Vatican in Rome, Italy. On her domestic adventures she visited Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, California, Virginia, Hawaii, and Maine. She traveled by car, plane, train, bus, and even a few cruise ships! Albina was a member of the Plattsburgh Senior citizens and some of her traveling was with groups of local seniors. In addition to traveling, Albina had several other interests. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and reading. She was fascinated with genealogy research and enjoyed investigating the topic with her niece Pamela Keegan. Her “little red book” of family history is packed with important dates and journal like entries that document her long life. She kept it up to date all of her adult life. Her love of crocheting and quilting kept her busy volunteering from home. She sewed Christening Bibs for the newest members of St. Peter’s Church, crocheted hundreds of hats and mittens in all sizes annually, for the Christmas Bureau, crocheted newborn hats for infants born at CVPH and afghans for area nursing home residents, as well as, patients at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. She loved to quilt and made several quilts for victims of domestic violence. Much of that service was done through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. In 2015, at the age of 104, Albina received an award for her thirty-eight and a half years of service through RSVP!
Albina was a long standing communicant of St. Peter’s Church and a lifetime member of their Rosary and Altar Society. After moving from Plattsburgh, she attended mass at St. Augustine’s church in Peru. There she was lovingly referred to as “nana” or “gramma” by her many church friends. She had great faith in the promises of the Blessed Mother Mary and almost never missed her daily recitation of the rosary. Albina is survived by a daughter, Charlene Lombard of Plattsburgh, two sons; Carlton St. Germain of Plattsburgh and Ronald of Port Charlotte, FL and Lake George, NY and a daughter-in-law, Sharon St. Germain of Plattsburgh. She is also survived by her extended family members: her eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, as well as, several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband David in 1962, her parents, her seven siblings: two brothers; Andrew and Raymond Archambault, five sisters; Florence Fisher, Bernadette Couture, Sally McCasland, Lena LeVinus and Eva Furnia, and their spouses, a son-in-law Clayton Lombard, a grandson-in-law John Kent, and two infant great-great grandchildren.
