Altona Alfreda Mary Guay passed away on Tuesday January 8, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She and her twin brother Alfred were born on April 11, 1920, the fourth and fifth children of Rosa and Phillip Guay. Known as "Auntie" to family and friends, she was a graduate of Chazy Rural Central School and North Dakota Business College earning the highest honors in her class. Alfreda resided in Altona for over 70 years, partnering with Halsey Stark, her brother-in-law, to found Stark and Guay Grocery Store in 1942. In addition to managing the store, she later worked for the US Post Office, serving as assistant and acting post mistress as well as rural carrier. She retired in 1972 to help care for her great nephews Randall and Jon, her pride and joy. Alfreda was a dedicated member of Holy Angels Church, serving as Trustee and participating in all Church functions. She was also an active member of the Rock Side Senior Citizens Club holding the office of treasurer for more than two decades. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Beatrice Landry and her husband Oliver, Margurette Stark and husband Halsey, Sister Rose Emile' SSH (Melvina), her twin brother Alfred and his wife Pauline and brother-in-law Irvin Reid. She was also predeceased by nephews Norman Landry, Phillip Guay and Gerard Guay. Survivors include her brother Phillip "Al" Guay and his wife Arlene of Satellite Beach, FL and sister Frances Guay of ME. She is also survived by her niece Lois Stark Beach and her husband Randy of Altona, as well as great nephews Randall Stark Beach, his wife Sarah and great, great nephews Tristan and Colby and Jonathan Charles Beach (with whom she resided), his wife Robin and great, great nephews, Andrew and Samuel, and great, great nieces; Carissa, Katelyn and Emma, as well as 23 nieces and nephews of the Landry, Guay and Reid families and many cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday January 11, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday January 12, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:30 at the Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona. Burial will be later in the year in the parish cemetery.
