Alice Zuliani

Alice Zuliani, nee Zahtila, of Saranac Lake, NY, passed away peacefullyin her sleep on Monday afternoon, August 27, 2012. She was 98 yearsold, born April 5, 1914 in Krsan, Istria in Croatia.The daughter of John and Mary (Dragovina) Zahtila , Alice came with herfamily to the U.S., including three brothers now deceased, John, Josephand Anthony, as a young child. She lived her childhood in Cleveland, Ohiobefore the family moved to mid-Manhattan's west side where her fatherran an Italian grocery business. After marriage to her husband AnthonyZuliani she resided in the Bronx where she raised three sons, then moved to Yonkers in Westchester, afterwards to Shelter Island on Long Island,and then settled in Saranac Lake, NY.Alice will be remembered for her love of family and their gatherings, hereasy warmth and her love of humor and laughter. She was a great cookof regional Istrian/Croatian dishes, loved to swim in the ocean and lakes, and wasthe first prepared to go when family outings and trips were planned. Oneof her favorite past-times, with a cup of coffee at hand, were the Sundaycrossword puzzles.Alice was predeceased by her husband Anthony of 75 years, who passedaway just shy of his 100th birthday in 2010. She is survived by her three sons, Joseph,John and James, their three wives, Elena, Keti and Lynn, six grandchildren, Marc and Alyssa, Jason and Alexia, and Michael and Joseph,and three great grand children, Luca, Nico and Augusten.Alice will be particularly remembered for her joy of singing, includingsuch favorites as "Little Brown Jug", "Santa Lucia" and "You are mySunshine." There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to remember Alice may make donations to the Saranac Lake Free Library.
