Alvin J Snow

May 20, 1934 — June 21, 2023

We regret to announce the passing of our father, Alvin Joseph Snow, aged 89. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on June 21, 2023 in Plattsburgh, NY after a lengthy illness.

Alvin spent most of his career working in various papermills, beginning at the J&J Rogers Company in AuSable Forks and ending his papermill career at Imperial Paper Mill in Plattsburgh. In between, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. During this time, he met his beloved wife, Gertrude (Trudy) Veronica Cassidy, while stationed in Liverpool, England. They were married in England and returned to AuSable Forks together when Alvin's enlistment ended.

Alvin (Papa) was a devoted family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren above all else. He was a much-loved husband to Trudy and a devoted father to Michael, David, Catherine, and Andrew Snow. He was also a cherished and loyal friend to many.

Throughout his life, Alvin had many interests. In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He built his family home by hand. Alvin and Trudy loved to take their four children waterskiing and camping. The children would wait for him to come home from work to pile up in the car to go to Taylor Pond or Fern Lake. He also loved to play pinochle with his family and friends. There was always a card game going on in the Snow household. Alvin also loved the casino and playing chess. But most of all, he loved being with his family. In his later years, nothing brought him more joy than snuggling with his great grandchildren and watching them play.

Alvin Snow is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, parents, brothers, and daughter in law.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 10:00-11:00am at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, 3 College St., AuSable Forks. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Holy Name Cemetery, with military honors, next to his beloved wife, Trudy. Reception details will follow.

Alvin Joseph Snow was a great man and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arrangements entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
