Anita B. O'Neill, 95, of Pine Trace Run, Ocala Fl. formerly of Dannemora,NY passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at her home under the care of Marion County Florida Hospice. She was born in Ogdensburg, NY on August 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Henry and Adrienne (Rousselle) Bergevin.
Anita had a love for travel; travelling domestically, the Caribbean, and Europe. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family. Anita graduated from Rouses Point High School in 1944 and from Plattsburgh State University with a BS in Home Economics in 1948. She received her Permanent Teaching Certificate for Elementary School in 1969. She taught at Peru High School, Altona Central School and later retired from Northern Adirondack School where she had so many wonderful memories of the students she taught and her co-workers. She was instrumental in continuing the annual family reunion each August.
She is survived by 6 children; Timothy and Kathleen O'Neill of Ocala, Fl. Merry LaFontaine and Mario Martinez of Ocala, Fl., Thomas O'Neill of Ocala, Fl. Stephen O'Neill of Brooksville, Fl., Christopher O'Neill of Glenville, NY, and Eric and Kimberly O'Neill of Dannemora, NY. Also survived by 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Hillary O'Neill in 2008. She was also predeceased by her brother Robert Bergevin and his wife Betty, and 2 great-grandchildren Adam O'Neill and Victoria O'Neill.
The family would like to thank Michelle and Maria from Visiting Angels for the kindness and love shown while taking care of our mother. They truly were angels.
Anita was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, NY and also of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Candler, Fl.
Calling hours will be held at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh New York on Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 2:00-5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 12:00pm at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora, NY. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Saranac, NY.
There will also be a memorial service in Candler, FL at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Donations in memory of her may be made to the Dannemora Fire Department or Hospice of Marion County Florida 3231 SW 34th Ave. Ocala FL 34474.
