Anna M. "Peg" Griffin Makara, 98, of Plattsburgh , died Sunday, December 24, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born Thursday, September 10th, 1925 , the third daughter of Patrick and Goldie (Williams) Ledwith. She started her education in a two room school in Schuyler Falls. Florence Coryea taught grades 1-4 and Anna Coffee taught grades 5-8. She finished at Peru Central. Her first job was for Ma Bell where she was on the switchboard the day President Roosevelt died. Everyone thought the war was over until their Chief Operator came in and told them about the President. She later married Roy Griffin; they had 3 daughters, Linda, Nancy and Kathy. Roy was killed in an auto accident. She later married Joseph Makara and gained 3 stepsons, Roswell, Joseph Jr., and Thomas (talk about the Brady Bunch). Peg loved all sorts of crafts; she made doilies, table cloths, bedspreads, and afghans. She once said "I've made so many smurfs, I could make them in my sleep." She loved to play cards, pinochle, and sets, complete crossword puzzles (in ink) and her favorite board game was Trivial Pursuit. Peg was predeceased by her husbands, Roy Griffin and Joseph Makara, her sisters; Rita Stangrover, Helen Paro, and Pauline Craig, her brothers; Raymond and Robert Ledwith, sons-in-law; John Marshall and George Steele and stepson, Roswell Makara. Also Kenneth Hough who was a loving character in her book of life. She is survived by her three daughters, Linda Marshall, Nancy Griffin, and Kathy Steele (Bruce Gonyo), 2 stepsons, Joseph and Thomas Makara, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Obituary above was authored by Peg herself. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Elaine Bruso, and Heather Newell from Hospice of the North Country; both Elaine and Heather have been godsends to Peg and her family. Per Peg's request, there will be no public calling hours or services. Burial will be in West Plattsburgh Union. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
