Anna L. Messer, 83, of Plattsburgh, died on April 21, 2014. Anna was born in Hazard, KY, December 25, 1930, the daughter of the late Johnny and Peggy. Anna received her Bachelor's Degree from Berea College, Kentucky, her Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee and her Ph. D. from Purdue University. Anna's teaching career included several schools and universities, but most notably her work as Professor at the State University of New York, Plattsburgh campus, from 1963 to her retirement in 1992. She was active in several public service organizations for women's rights, including Planned Parenthood of Clinton County, where she was a past board member. She is predeceased by her sisters; Marie Scrivner of Northport, Alabama, Willa Mae Lewis of Xenia, Ohio, Gertrude Amburgey of Sugar Grove, Ohio and Dorothy Abraham of Centerville, Ohio. She is survived by sisters Lois Scrivner of Cottondale, Alabama, Nora Ledford of Huber Heights, Ohio and Lavada Perrill of Dayton, Ohio, and her cat, Osiris. At Anna's request there will be no public calling hours or services. Memorial contributions in Anna's name may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society, 134 Idaho Ave., Plattsburgh, NY 12903.
