Anna R. Nardelli, 86, of Iowa Street in Plattsburgh, passed away on Monday, July 5th, 2021 at her home. She was born in Watervliet, NY on September 28, 1934. She is the daughter of John and Lena Nardella.
Anna was an award-winning Professor Emeritus in Education at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh. She was proud to be an Educator for over 40 years. Anna started her career in 1956 as a classroom teacher in the public schools. She excelled in that role for several years before she joined the SUNY faculty. At first, she supervised Student Teachers who worked in schools throughout New York state. She traveled the highways from Long Island all the way up through the North Country helping new teachers learn their craft. She was very active in organizing and directing in-service programs for other educators. She designed and taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in educational foundations, curriculum and instruction, language arts and literacy development, children’s literature, authentic assessment, using portfolios, as well as others. She was well known for the faculty development programs she conducted in the public and private schools.
While at SUNY she was the recipient of the prestigious SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She was also the recipient of the Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year Award and the SUNY Plattsburgh Center for Lifelong Learning’s Outstanding Adult Student Educator Emeriti Award. In addition, Anna and her husband traveled to Italy to study the Maria Montessori Method.
After retiring from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1995, Anna served as a Curriculum Consultant in local schools to assist administrators and teachers in developing district curriculum guides based on the New York State educational standards. She also worked with schools to update the documents they used to report to parents, which paralleled with state standards.
She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her 4 granddaughters. Anna was blessed to have a dedicated group of friends who never hesitated to provide her with support whenever she needed it. Shirley Coffey and Simone Lutz were two of many friends that Anna loved to spend time with and valued as part of her extended family. Anna’s family, especially her children Teresa and Frank, want to thank all of Anna’s friends for the exceptional amount of kindness and compassion they provided for Anna.
Anna is survived by her two children, Teresa Nardelli-Goodsell and her husband Christopher of Massachusetts, Frank Nardelli II and his wife Shana of Michigan, and four grandchildren Sophia Goodsell, Francesca Goodsell, Annalin Nardelli and Callie Nardelli. Anna’s children, Teresa and Frank, are immensely proud of their mother’s accomplishments and feel grateful for the constant love and support that Anna provided for them throughout their lives.
Anna was pre-deceased in 2007 by her beloved husband Frank. Anna and Frank were married in 1969 in Plattsburgh. They established a partnership and love for each other that words cannot describe. Anna looked forward to reuniting with her Frank in heaven.
Anna Nardelli will be remembered as an inspiring Educator, a loyal friend, a dedicated wife, a loving Mom, and a cherished Nonni (Italian for grandmother). Her legacy is strong. Her 4 incredible granddaughters will continue to make their Nonni proud and represent her well as they pursue their goals and earn their success.
