Annette L. Richard, 91, of 75 Moffitt Rd., Plattsburgh, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at home under the care of Hospice and her caregivers, Susan and Toby Tobias. She was born on Aug. 1, 1916, in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Sigfroid and Marie O. (Couture) Leclerc. She graduated from Berlin High School. In September 1950 she married Walter Wallace Richard at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. He died on Sept. 28, 1961, in Burlington, Vt. Ann, as she was known to her friends, had a great love for life. She trained to be a hairdresser, was a social worker, insurance agent, the first female doorkeeper of the New Hampshire Legislature and a singer in Maine and Boston. The Boston Globe called her the "Hildegarde of Old Orchard Beach" because of the strength of her voice. She served on the City of Burlington (Vt.) Welfare Commission, the Alcohol Board and owned and operated Richard's Guest House in Burlington for many years. She moved to Plattsburgh in 2006. She is survived by her nephew, Richard Leclerc, his wife, Beverly, and their daughter, Lauren, all of Beverly, Mass.; two nieces, Jane Friebel and Denice McDaniel, both of Virginia, and her extended family, Susan and Toby Tobias, Esther and Eddie Ebersole, all of Plattsburgh, Anne and Craig Remsburg of Arizona and Debbie and Spencer Tobias of Texas and their families. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Lumina "Mina" Taylor, brother-in-law, Sherman L. Taylor, a brother, Roland Leclerc and sister-in-law, Ellen Leclerc and her long-time companion, Mirza Tobias. At Ann's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial and committal prayers will be held at Resurrection Park Cemetery, 200 Hinesburg Rd., South Burlington, Vt., on Tuesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. Pastor James Miller of the First Assembly of God in Plattsburgh will officiate. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. The Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.
