Anthony(Tony) Peter Senecal, a resident of Lake Worth, FL died April 21, 2020 in Plattsburgh, NY. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY October 29, 1941 to the late Andrew Peter Senecal & Katherine Mary Delaney Senecal. Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his son, Andrew Peter Senecal II April 19, 2019, sister Mary Kathleen Senecal Phifer and brother Robert William Senecal. He is survived by his older brother Andrew Parsons Senecal of Pittsburgh, PA and Gail Caffrey Gardes of Silversprings, MD, his cousin, who he thought of as his sister. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a special niece, Ann Senecal Martin, of Plattsburgh.
Tony was raised by his mother’s cousin George Caffrey and his wife Marian in Arlington, VA because his father died 7 months before his birth, and his mother when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Shepherd College in 1967 with a BA in English. Tony spent his early career teaching in Martinsburg, WV. He was owner/operator of Anthony House in Martinsburg, and Olde Berkeley Tea and Tobacco Shoppe in Martinsburg. Tony was the Mayor of Martinsburg in the early 90’s following in the footsteps of his late grandfather Andrew George Senecal, DDS who was the 7th Mayor of Plattsburgh, NY.
Tony retired to Lake Worth, FL where he used his gift of gab and knowledge of history giving tours to visitors to West Palm Beach. Tony enjoyed politics, researching his family history, along with being an avid fisherman who spent many hours fishing on Lake Champlain.
Tony will be interred in the Senecal family plot in St. Peters Cemetery, Plattsburgh, NY. Memorials in Tony’s name can be sent to Hospice of the North Country, 358 Tom Miller Road Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
