Plattsburgh Arthur "Art" E. LaMarche 69, of Melody Lane, Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2012 at his home after a courageous stand against lymphoma. He was surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Art was born in Plattsburgh on January 3, 1943 to Phillip Maurice and Marion (Forrest) LaMarche. He was a graduate of Mount Assumption Institute and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Plattsburgh State University College. Art was an outstanding football, basketball and baseball player at MAI and was a member of the swim and baseball teams during his college years. He was a teacher in the Plattsburgh City School District for thirty-eight years. He also served on several building and district level committees and was loved and respected by his students and colleagues, who he often entertained with his jokes and stories. Art served as a City Alderman from 1984 to 1988 and served as Mayor Pro Tem. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Peter's Church and past member of the Finance Council. He coached local swim and football teams, officiated swim meets for many years and was a past President of the New York State Swim Official's Association. Art was an avid hunter and enjoyed scuba diving, boating, photography and traveling with his family. He never met a dog he did not like. Art was the cherished husband of Rosemary (Carter) LaMarche, who he married on July 30, 1994 and the loving father of seven children; Dr. Arthur E. LaMarche Jr. Peru, Gerald LaMarche, Churubusco, Phillip LaMarche, Keri Mack, Plattsburgh, Nancy (Chris) Rasmussen, Wichita, KS, Suzanne (Jason) Trombley, Baldwinsville, NY and Kathryn Frenyea of LaGrande, Oregon. He is also survived by three brothers and their spouses; Philip and Carol LaMarche, Bristol, NH, John and Sandie LaMarche, Hollywood, Florida and Robert and Roberta LaMarche, Dover Plains, NY, his mother-in-law Betty Carter (Plattsburgh) and brother-in-laws Reg (Susan), Randy, Mark, David (Sharon) and John Carter, ten grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his two canine companions, Remington and Winchester. Art was predeceased by his parents, nephew Jay LaMarche and father-in-law Raymond Carter. Art was a man of great faith and integrity, who loved his family above all else and possessed a tremendous sense of humor. He was a loving and loyal husband, father, grandparent, brother, uncle and friend. His grandchildren will always remember "Poppy" and the many wonderful memories he gave them. Calling hours will be Sunday, September 16, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 17, 2012 at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Art's memory may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, Hospice of the North Country or Hope Lodge, Burlington, Vermont in care of Brown Funeral Home.
