Barbara Evelyn Gladue

March 19, 1931 — July 17, 2024

Barbara Evelyn (Remieres) Gladue went peacefully into the arms of Jesus, July 17, 2024 Barbara was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on March 19,1931 to Frank and Evelyn Remieres. When she was a little girl, her family moved to Bristol, Rhode Island where she grew up with several fond memories. She graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1949. While in High School she met Gene Gladue and they later married on June 19, 1951, they went on to celebrate 70 years of marriage. She was an Air Force wife and lived in several states and a different country throughout her husband’s service. They were blessed with a healthy family of 6 children. She was very involved in St. Peter’s Church, she was a Franciscan, loved to bowl, raised her children all while employed as The Supervisor of the Former Base Nursery. She went on to care for her children while her husband was deployed in Vietnam. At the age of 44 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and learned she was pregnant with her 6th child, she quickly took up swimming, a sport she enjoyed because of her mother. Through doctors and research, she learned it was good for her muscles and nerves, as she adapted to her MS diagnosis. She ended up having swam over 1000 miles at the Plattsburgh YMCA and due to this feat was awarded a plague she displayed proudly. She loved having her family around her, mostly at the kitchen table playing cards for hours. She was hilarious and her family and friends never knew what she might say or do next, she kept everyone she knew on their toes. We will forever treasure her memories and actions - she left us with a lot of them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Gladue, her son, David Gladue, her parents Frank & Evelyn Remieres and her older sister Betty. She is survived by her children Paul (Denise) Gladue of Plattsburgh, Kathy (David) Gladue of Syracuse, Barbara (Robert) Landry of North Carolina, Karen (Dave) Wachs of North Carolina, Gene Gladue of North Carolina, and Shannon (Kristy) Kennedy of Plattsburgh. Her younger sister June Cook of Massachusetts and 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to also extend a thank you and gratitude to the faculty and staff at Pine Harbor Assisted Living in Plattsburgh, who took incredible care of Barbara in her last year of life. Thank you! 2 Corinthians 5:8 To be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord Revelation 21:4-6 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Calling hours will take place Monday, July 22nd from 4pm-6pm at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
