Barbara “Gail” LePage, 83, of Plattsburgh, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022 at home with her loving family by her side, under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Gail was born February 19, 1939 in Ottawa, the daughter of William and Kathleen (Brookes) Lavigne.
Gail married her loving husband of nearly 64 years, James Baker LePage, on August 23, 1958. Together, they raised 5 children: James B. LePage, Jr; Michael (Michelle) LePage; Brian (Dana) LePage; Robert (Sherry) LePage; and Kimberly (Brian) Clodgo.
Gail loved being able to stay home to raise their children, as well as caring for many other children in the family and community, including many foster children who brought more life to the family home. Later, Gail began working with the Roman Catholic Church through the Diocese of Ogdensburg and St. Joseph’s Church in Treadwells Mill. Gail was an integral part of the church youth group, as well as running the kitchen during weekly BINGO and annual Harvest and Spring Dinners. In addition, Gail often acted as parish support, offering a kind heart and open arms to all parishioners. Gail always had a kind word for everyone and found a way to help a person in need. After she retired from the church, Gail continued her life of giving and faith through her volunteerism with the church, assisting Brother Roland in establishing the St. Joseph’s clothing store and later started the Soup Kitchen in Treadwells Mill, and offered guidance to other communities opening their own soup kitchens. Gail is best known for her love of family and amazing culinary skills – there was nothing better than a holiday in Gail’s kitchen.
Gail is predeceased by her parents and siblings Wesley “Carl” Lavigne; Barry Lavigne; and Helen Lavigne. In addition to her husband and children, Gail is survived by her brother, Eric Lavigne of Quebec, sister-in-law Helen Lavigne of Quebec, and sister-in-law Lise Lavigne of Chazy; numerous nieces and nephews; 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
