SARANAC Mrs. Beatrice V. Coryer (nee Carter), 97, formerly of Ganong Drive, Saranac, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2014 at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, South Carolina, following a long illness. She was born in Saranac, N.Y., on November 29, 1916, the daughter of Oliver and Mary (LaFountain) Carter and was the twelfth of 14 children. Beatrice married Roland D. Coryer at the Church of the Assumption in Redford on Feb. 26, 1938; he was her devoted companion for their 68 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2006. Born and raised in Saranac, during World War II Beatrice followed her husband Roland to California, where he was stationed with the Navy. She worked in the post office in San Francisco, a time she always spoke of fondly. Upon their return to New York after the war, Beatrice was an elementary teacher at Saranac Central Schools and had a lifelong love of children. She retired from teaching in 1981 and enjoyed spending her later years as a devoted mother and grandmother. Beatrice is survived by her son, William R. Coryer of South Carolina; her daughter, Cheryl A. Snyder of Michigan; four grandchildren, William Coryer, Eric Coryer, Kelly Anthony and Jennifer Sexten; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Spencer, Michael and Nathan Coryer, Layla Coryer and Sven and Leia Sexten, along with many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, N.Y. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the spring at the parish cemetery.
