Bertha V Rabideau

ALTONA. Bertha V. Rabideau, 98 passed away Dec. 5, 2010 at the home of her nephew Larry Barnaby and wife Linda of Mooers Forks, N.Y. She was born Aug. 24, 1912, the daughter of Louis Barnaby Sr. and Mary (Lemieux) Barnaby. Bertha was a hard worker loved gardening, canning, cooking and picking blueberries. Her heart was filled with faith, hope and inspiration for everyone. She ran a berry business for 60 years delivering 28,000 quarts of berries from Pray's market in Plattsburgh to St. Johnsbury, Burlington, Montpelier and as far as Rutland, Vt. with her Model A Ford Truck. Bertha was the Town of Altona Tax Collector for 14 years, was a top saleslady during her 45 year career as an Avon Representative and she spent much of her life taking care of people. Bertha also worked at the Supreme Footwear in Mooers, in NYC, in Champlain & Malone hotels, and cared for the elderly for many years. Bertha also spent much of her time volunteering. She was chairperson of three parades in Altona, including one in 1985 and loved to help with the Church Bingo selling cards for 30 years plus helped cater dinners at the church hall with Father Burnette and every Priest in the parish after him. Bertha is predeceased by her husband Leo Rabideau and nine siblings Louis Barnaby Sr, Harvey Barnaby, Elsie Rose, Evelyn LaDue, Flossie LaBarge, Eugene Barnaby, Theresa Hansbury, Stella Manor, and Clarence Barnaby. She is survived by one sister-in-law Grace (Sweet) Barnaby, several nieces and nephews and many Godchildren. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 3123 Miner Farm Road in Altona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday, December 9, 2010 from Holy Angels Church in Altona. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be offered to Hospice of the North Country or the Altona Fire Department.
