Bertha Alice Welch, nee Bechard, age 98, a resident of Westover Hills Nursing Home in San Antonio, TX for 5 months, formerly of Plattsburgh, NY, died October 16, 2011, in the care of Odyssey Hospice in San Antonio. She was born May 18, 1913 to Joseph and Elzima Bechard of Champlain, NY. Married to the late John "Eddie" Welch on September 27, 1939 in Cooperville, NY. Mother to Jerry (Patricia) Welch, Countryside, IL, and Jane (William) Crytzer, San Antonio, TX. Loving grandmother to Theresa (late Jeffrey) Welch Bailey, Garner N.C., Karene (late David) Welch Stevenson, Bryan, TX., Krisann (Alan) Welch Winkler, Willow Spring, N.C., Barbra (Paul) Crytzer Leigh, San Antonio, TX, Merianne (Wade) Crytzer Bott, Turtle Lake, ND. Adoring great grandmother to Brandon, Cameron and Kyle Bott, Matthew, Austin and Kreyenna Leigh, Zachary and Molly Beth Stevenson, Benjamin and Baylee Winkler. Sister to Anita (Richard) Bissette, FL, late Sister Emily (Irene) (Sisters of St Joseph), late Clara (late John) LaFrance, late Ora (late Russell) Matott, late Eugene (late Jeanne), late Stanley (late Ruth), late Oscar (late Rita), late Leon (Lucille) Bechard. Bertha was an avid paint decorator and antique furniture restoration specialist. She performed clothing alterations for many and created unique and specialty drapery systems for professional and home décor used in museum and elegant historical homes in the Plattsburgh, NY and surrounding area. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 7 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Plattsburgh.
