Bertrand Joseph "Joe" Abraham, 92, of Plattsburgh, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. He was born Jan. 27, 1931, the son of Bertrand Abraham and Viola (Covelle) Abraham. Born and raised in Plattsburgh, Joe attended St. John's High School where he met his true love, Shirley Perras. They married in 1953. Following his graduation from Champlain College, he served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1954, Joe began his career in retail management working for Neisner Brothers, moving to Albany, DC, Florida, Chicago, Rochester and New Jersey while advancing up the corporate ladder. Missing the North Country, he returned to Plattsburgh in 1980 to open a clothing store with Shirley. He also managed other businesses, sold real estate and last worked in economic development for the City of Plattsburgh. Joe volunteered at CVPH and was a Lions Club member, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow award for humanitarian services. He was an avid sports fan (favorites baseball/ New York Yankees) and a great cook (famous for his peanut brittle and banana bread). He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them most of all. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Shirley, his son Dan Abraham (Moira), daughter Sandra Boyle (Stephen), grandchildren Maire Conrad (Zachary), Brigid Hensley (Michael), Brendan Boyle (Priya), great-granchildren Rory, Maeve, Bree, Nolan, Heath, Xavier, sister-in-law Lita Bechard and multiple nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Jocelyn Malone and brother Jerry Abraham. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church, Plattsburgh. Memorial donations may be made to the CVPH Foundation (CVPH.org) Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
