Bruce E Fry

Bruce Emile Fry (aka “Mr. Big”) age 78 passed away in Plattsburgh, NY on January 3rd having lived life to the fullest. He came into the world May 30th , 1942 to Sydney Fry and Jeanne (nee LeBlanc) Fry in Montreal. Bruce excelled in everything sports from a very young age and was a gifted athlete in baseball, basketball, and finally settled on a professional career in golf. Bruce’s natural charisma saw him leaving lasting impacts in the golf world in both Quebec and New York State. He began his career at The Hermitage Club in Magog, QC, where he continued to hold tournaments in memoriam to his father, Sydney, for the past 50 years. His career took him to Summerlea Golf & Country Club, QC, Golf Gardens, QC, Bluff Point Golf Club, Plattsburgh, NY, Elk Ridge Golf Resort, Saskatchewan, and finally Adirondack Golf & Country Club, Peru, NY. A proud Montrealer who could easily straddle the English/French divide, he moved to Plattsburgh, NY in the early 1980s and it is here that he truly felt at home. He met his love and life partner Sharon “Nurse” Kelly in Plattsburgh and quickly created a rich tapestry of close friends and family who shared his passions for golf, cooking, eating well, drinking scotch (or whatever was on hand), dancing, playing cards, watching sports (every single one - we even caught him watching sport fishing), dogs and politics.

Bruce is survived by his partner Sharon Kelly, his children: Christine Fry and Mark Fenton (Toronto, ON), Robert Fry (Toronto, ON), Daniel Fry and Matthew Mommer (NY), Liz and Tom Proietti (CT), Jim and Tammy Orr (AL), Bob Orr (FL), his grandchildren: Ezri Fenton, Leah Fry, Olivia and Lena Proietti, Brady and Brooks Orr, Nicholas Lavalley Orr, Astrid Burdick, Adelayde Orr, Alec Burdick and finally, his little dog Georgia. It also goes without saying that he has left a village of beloved friends who are also feeling the loss of the singular “Mr. Big”.

One of Bruce’s favourite sayings was, “My day never ends!” and this was usually said from his La-Z-Boy with scotch in hand while watching golf, hockey, baseball or football…may his day never end in our hearts and minds...cheers!

A celebration of life will be arranged at a future date which will be announced when we are able to gather together once again. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to The Foundation of Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in memory of Bruce,
