Mr. Bruce Davidson McEwan, 91, formerly of Lake Forest, Plattsburgh, New York, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. He was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on December 21, 1918, the son of Ewart and Edith (Davidson) McEwan. Bruce served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII in England as a Mosquito pilot (Squadron # 128) and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1945. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto. Prior to moving to Plattsburgh, Bruce had made his home in Henrietta, New York, and retired from Eastman Kodak in Rochester after more than thirty years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, camping and volunteering at his church, John Calvin Presbyterian Church, in Henrietta, New York. Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Catherine, and a sister Helen Reid. He is survived by one son, Dr. David McEwan of Honolulu, Hawaii, four daughters; Donna Hanrahan and her husband Tim and daughter Kelsey of Plattsburgh, New York, Linda McEwan and her husband Kerry Gulick and their daughters, Alexandra and Kristin of Halfway, Oregon, Sheila Breeding her husband James and their children David and Lindsay of Somerville, New Jersey and Leslie McEwan, her son Michael Alvarez, and her fiancé Tom Smith of Toms River, New Jersey. Many nieces and a nephew also survive him. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh, located at 34 Brinkerhoff Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Plattsburgh. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh, NY.
