Carl "Curtis Caldwell

June 18, 1935 — August 30, 2024

Carl "Curtis" Caldwell, 89, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024 at UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT surrounded by love. He was born in Pearisburg, VA on June 18, 1935, the son of James and Dorcas (Raynes) Caldwell. Carl graduated from Pearisburg High School in Pearisburg, VA. Carl joined the United States Air Force in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1961 after being stationed in both Plattsburgh, NY and Morocco. He then worked for the New York State Department of Corrections and retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant after nearly 30 years of service. Carl worked many other jobs over the years, including driving school bus for Saranac Central School District, installing for Overhead Garage Doors, and working at North Bowl Lanes for close to 40 years. He was a former member of the Morrisonville Fire Department, a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh, and a Board Member of the Plattsburgh Bowling Association. Carl radiated positivity, warmth, and gratitude. He was extremely generous with his love, money, time, actions and words - never missing an opportunity to tell others how much he cared for and loved them. Carl's sense of humor was unmatched; he was always the first to crack up at a funny joke or story (even when it was at his expense), and with the most knee-slapping, contagious laugh! Carl was the ultimate Yankees and Commanders fan, and was a proud supporter of Beekmantown Football. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and cooking (especially his famous clam chowder), and never passed up an opportunity to go out on the town for a bite to eat. Carl's favorite pastime in recent years was taking long drives around the region while rocking out to his Prime Country and Willie's Roadhouse radio stations. He cherished the region and its beauty and was so proud to call the North Country his home. Carl is survived by his daughter Jessica Fish and her husband Joey of Plattsburgh, two grandchildren: Jett and Jordi Fish, his ex-wife Patti Caldwell, his daughter Anne Rock and her husband Richard of Keeseville, a granddaughter Ashely Rock and her fiance Justin Fessette, a great granddaughter Tori Fessette, two sisters: Shelby Bentley and her husband Kenneth and Beverly Padovani and her husband Victor, his ex mother-in-law Ann Munson, and several close family members in New York, Delaware, and Virginia who loved him dearly. He is predeceased by his parents James and Dorcas Caldwell, his first wife Joan Grassi, his ex father-in-law John E. Munson, and his ex in-laws Walter and Dorothy Connolly. Carl regularly donated to many organizations near and dear to his heart, especially those supporting children and animals in need. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude's Hospital or any local or national SPCA organization. Donations can also be made to the UVM Medical Center Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), who provided Carl and his family with comfort, compassion, and care in his final days. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeny.com.
