He married Eleanor Easton on May 21, 1949 and together they had six children. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora and more recently, Christ the King Church in Guilderland. As an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Carlton held the positions of Financial Secretary, Grand Knight, District Deputy and State Warden. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Kevin and Pam Gilroy of Jersey City, NJ, Mary and Laurence O'Toole of Athens, GA, Kieran and Joanne Gilroy of Rouses Point, NY, Brendan and Donna Gilroy of Apex, NC, Monica and Michael Thomas (his caregivers) of Guilderland, NY, Terrance and Loretta Gilroy of Brooklyn, NY, his brother Malcolm of Plattsburgh, NY, his sister-in-law Florence Easton of Florida, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen and James Petersen of Seneca Falls, NY, his grandchildren Conor and Archana O'Toole, Kathleen O'Toole, Kara and Kevin Thomas, Dylan and Haley Gilroy, a great grandson, Rohan O'Toole, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Carlton was a devoted Catholic and participated in parish ministries. He served as an alter boy, Lector, and Eucharistic Minister. He greatly enjoyed sports. A rabid Yankee fan, he loved baseball, and that spilled over to his children and grandchildren. He was also a Notre Dame fan and followed the Green and Gold of the Packers. Carlton loved people, and he loved conversing with them on local and world news, as well as Knights of Columbus affairs. He liked to talk to whomever about whatever. He loved the family he grew up with and the family he raised. Letter writing was his passion and he had impeccable penmanship. He loved history, watching Jeopardy, and trivia of all kinds. "He's victor and victim, a star and a clod. But mostly he's Irish¦in love with his God." He was a good man. May he rest in peace.
