Mrs. Carol Ann (Burke) Deshaies, 68 of Algonquin Drive, Cumberland Head, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at her home on the lake with her loving family by her side under the care of Hospice of the North Country after a 13 year courageous stand against cancer. Mrs. Deshaies was born in Potsdam, New York on December 11, 1943 to the late James and Marjorie (Perry) Burke. She received her Associates Degree from Cazenovia College, and received her Bachelor's Degree in Speech and Hearing Pathology from State University of Geneseo. Mrs. Deshaies was a Speech and Hearing Pathologist for 32 years where she spent 30 of those years teaching within the Peru Central School District where she retired in the spring of 1998. She was highly regarded among the faculty as well as her students because of her never give up attitude. She continued to tutor and take on special needs children well into her retirement. Mrs. Deshaies loved being on Lake Champlain with her family, friends and especially her granddaughters. She enjoyed taking boating trips all over Lake Champlain including trips to Valcour Island and through the Richelieu into St Jean Quebec. When Mrs. Deshaies retired, she and her husband loved spending the winter months in Clearwater, FL where she developed the knack for crafting fine Jewelry. She was an avid dog lover. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Donald Deshaies, three sons, Brent Deshaies and wife Hollie, Kirk Deshaies, and Eric Deshaies and wife Courtney as well as six granddaughters: Sophie, Emma, Claire, Aurora, Rowan and Ellery. Sister Nancy Markes, Brother in-law Herb Deshaies, Sister in-law Yvette Carmichel and Brother in-Law Lenny Carmichel, Brother in-law Barney Deshaies and Bobbie Deshaies as well as several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Lake Oratory, burial will following in the parish cemeter. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, and (518) 561-3980. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CVPH FitzPatrick Cancer Center.
