Plattsburgh - Mr. Cecil Vern' Gibbs, 82, of Gravelly Point Drive, Plattsburgh, and also of Stuart Florida, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010, at CVPH with his loving family by his side. He was born in Malone on March 18, 1928 to Cecil and Hazel King Gibbs. Vern retired as a supervisor from the New York State Telephone Company. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge. Vern enjoyed spending the winter months at his home in Florida where he served on many committees in his retirement community. Vern enjoyed gardening, dancing and playing cards. His grandchildren looked forward to his tomatoes, cucumbers, and scallions that he loved to share. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Vern was predeceased in 2005 by his wife, Genevieve June' (Provost) Gibbs, His parents, Cecil and Hazel King Gibbs, his brothers, Floyd, Kenneth, and Gordon. Son Albert Provost of Las Vegas, son-in-law Roger O'Connell of Cadyville. He is survived by his son Danny and his wife Wanda Crannell of Oregon and their children Cylas and Mariah. Daughter Marjorie (Provost) and Lawrence (Larry) Carpenter of Plattsburgh, son Philip and Edith Provost of Las Vegas, son Tom Provost of Plattsburgh and daughter Deanna (Provost) O'Connell of Cadyville. His brother Robert Gibbs of Florida. His Grandchildren, Steven & Carol Carpenter, Tammy & Daniel Duquette of Plattsburgh, Scott & Jody Carpenter of Morrisonville, Jeffrey & Lori Carpenter of Schenectady, Philip & Amiee Provost of Peru, Prudence & Adam Gantz of LasVegas, Angela & Jason Cooper, June & Mike Elstrott, John & Jennifer Provost, Charles & April Provost all of Seattle Washington, Roger Jr. O'Connell of Vermont, Mike & Jill O'Connell of Morrisonville, Kevin & Carol O'Connell of Massachusetts, Scott O'Connell & his companion Molly Towne of Altona, Gregory & JoAnna O'Connell of Plattsburgh and several great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be Thursday September 16, 2010 from 4 to 8 at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday September 17, 2010, at 10:30am from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center
