Charles Bernard Filion

d. December 26, 2016

Charles Bernard Filion was born April 25,1927 in Champlain, NY and left us on December 26, 2016 after a prolonged illness. He was one of nine children, four of which remain. He is preceded in death by his wife Katherine Rose Filion, daughter Bonnie Lee Harris, and son Allen Charles Filion. He and Katherine were married on July 7, 1951 and were together 63 years. They raised four children together as well as one grandson, Nathan. He is survived by his two children, Jeanne McNally (Dale) of Pensacola, FL and John Filion of Plattsburgh, NY. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kerri Birdsall (Nathan), Scott McNally (Megan), Jenny Moriarty (Dan), Nathan Filion, and Sara. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. He loved all of his family dearly with a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nephew Craig Filion who was always there with a helping hand. As so many others had to do at that time, he left high school to enter the U.S. Navy as a SeaBee during WWII; he later received his honorary High School Diploma. He was stationed in Alaska at one point during his service. He recently received an award in Washington D.C. for being one of the few surviving WWII veterans. He learned many construction skills while he served in the military that he used throughout his life. He could repair or build anything. During his lifetime, he and his wife owned and ran a restaurant, Filion's. He was also a chef at the Officer's Club at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base. He then became a pipefitter at the base until retirement. For a while he worked on his own as a general repairman. People knew who to call when they needed help. He loved to hunt and fish and had many fishing spots that he and John kept to themselves. He hunted deer and bear and would sometimes donate the meat to help others. As he grew older, he came to appreciate reading and talking about the Bible. He and Katherine could be seen at Saint Peter's Church daily if not more often. Dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, you will be greatly missed by all of us. You took care of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother in the way that no one else could. We all love and will miss you and your wonderful dry sense of humor. No more pain, no more suffering or tears as the Bible states at Revelation 21:3,4; a scripture you read more than once. Goodbye, you live on in our hearts. There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be private in the parish cemetery. Donations in Charles' memory may be made to The American Cancer Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. Plattsburgh, NY. Online condolences and memorial candles may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
