Cheryl Jean Johnson

Cheryl Jean "Thompson" Johnson of Sora, Italy, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side in Albany, NY on April 13th, 2018 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Plattsburgh, NY in 1951 to the late Alvin and Frances (Hamelin) Thompson. She is a graduate of Lyon Mountain high school and had a 40-year career with the New York State Department of Correctional Services. She was a long-time resident of South Glens Falls and then Latham, NY. She loved spending her retirement years in Italy and cooking and baking for family and friends brought her much joy. She was very excited to be a first-time grandmother and had a contagious smile that lit up the room. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Ken and brother-in-law Bennie. She is survived by her longtime partner, Giuseppe "Joe" Alonzi, her three daughters Jessica (Nathan), Melissa (Eduardo) and Samantha, and their father Robert Johnson, her grandson Bowen, step-sons Gianluca and Luciano, four siblings; Alvin (Barbara), Vicki, Glenn and Scott (Sue), her aunts, Jean and Marilyn, and several adored cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her family in Italy including her sister-in-law Mariagrazia, brother-in-law Carmine (Maria) and her nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday April 19, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, a funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lyon Mountain Fire Department or Lyon Mountain Mining and Railroad Museum.
