Conrad S Penfield

Rouses Point Conrad S. Penfield, 83, of Rouses Point, NY passed away on Tuesday February 7, 2017 at UVHN:CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on May 1, 1933 the son of Hector of Perrys Mills, NY and Agnes (Stafford) Penfield of St. Rose, Quebec, Canada. Conrad graduated from Rouses Point High School in 1951 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS "Shadwell," above and below the Arctic Circle. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and soon after returned home to Rouses Point, where he began working at A. N. Deringer in Champlain, NY. Conrad met the love of his life Arlene R. Parmentier in 1955. They were married on October 19, 1957 at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point. Conrad continued to work for Deringer, eventually becoming a Licensed Customs Broker and retiring in 1997 after 42 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating, floral and vegetable gardening, and putting a coat of paint on everything. Conrad was a member of the Cumberland Bay Barber Shoppers for 18 years, The Kiwanis Club in Rouses Point, The Elks Lodge 621, and the American Legion Montgomery Post 912 in Rouses Point. He is predeceased by his parents, a brother Daniel R. Penfield, a sister Barbara A. Zaiss and her husband Herman, and a brother-in-law, Norman Brown. Conrad is survived by his wife of 59 years Arlene Ruth Maria Cristina Penfield, two sons; Christopher S. Penfield and Jonathan M. Penfield all of Rouses Point, a sister; Cynthia Brown of Chazy, his niece and nephews; Cindy (Brown) Ciaralli, Conrad Zaiss, Daniel Zaiss and Eric Zaiss, a great nephew Peter Ciaralli also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Friday February 10, 2017 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday February 11, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will be later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Conrad's memory may be made to the Rouses Point Rescue Squad. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
