Daniel H Brewer Sr

Rouses Point Mr. Daniel H. Brewer Sr., 84, of Rouses Point, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the UVM CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Quincy, IL on August 1, 1930, the son of the late Otis and Elsa (Cleesen) Brewer. Daniel joined the Navy Reserves, and then later joined the United States Air Force, after 20 years of service he retired from the Air Force. During his tenure in the service, Dan was very active in the Boy Scouts of America; he attended many summer camps, jamborees, including a World Jamboree. He attended Eastern Washington State College after his retirement, receiving his master's degree in education. Daniel taught grade school for several years and later at Clinton Correctional Facility retiring from both. Dan was very active in the Knights of Columbus, holding many offices from Grand Knight to Faithful Navigator, he was also instrumental in the inception of Columbian Squires King David Circle in Dodge City, Kansas, which was the first Squires Circle in the state of Kansas. From 2000 - 2014, he was a Master Gardener with Cornell Cooperative Extension. In his free time, he would be in his garden. Daniel's greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daniel is predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Theresa (Gilmet) Brewer, his two sisters; Pat and Vanessa. He is survived by his companion of 25 years, Patricia J. O'Hearn, his children; Daniel Brewer Jr. and his wife Colleen, Donna Filger and her husband Tom, Trena Young and her husband Mark, Geri-Lynn Martinez and her husband Tony, Jeffrey Brewer and his wife Karla, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Joanne and Mary, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at St. Alexander's Church on Friday at 10:00 am.
