Daniel R. Rose was born in Springfield, MA on February 4, 1953. He passed away at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital on February 12, 2022. He is survived by three brothers, John, Paul and David, and pre-deceased by his mother Anita R. Taylor.
Daniel had many occupations in his lifetime from driving a lobster delivery truck in New England to bookkeeping under the tutelage of his friend, Thomas Boutte, following him to Washington, DC and, later, to Keene Valley, NY. He spent a lot of time in Colonial Williamsburg, VA where he was often mistaken as an official tour guide. He retired in Plattsburgh, NY. Daniel was always learning and loved sharing in-depth knowledge about subject matter.
Daniel was known by many in the Northeast corner of New York for his love of singing and acting in productions in Keene Valley Congregational Church and the Grange in Keene’s Gilbert and Sullivan musicals, in Plattsburgh at Trinity Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, The Strand’s “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” (as Charlie Brown), the Champlain Valley Voices, the Cumberland Bay Barbershoppers, the Plattsburgh State Gospel Choir, the Keeseville-Peru Ecumenical Choir, and the Essex Community Church. He attributes his longevity to singing since being disabled in his 30’s by coronary disease.
Daniel lived a simple life, dressing comfortably in jeans with suspenders and LL Bean Rugby shirts or T-shirts. He was ready and willing to serve selflessly, whether it sent him to Canada to drive a friend’s father to Plattsburgh, to care for ailing parents of friends or to spend hours helping a friend to create an annual budget.
Daniel believed that being left-handed posed many challenges throughout his lifetime. He learned to have great respect for people, such as, Temple Grandin, who saw the world through a different lens. He was frustrated with medical inconveniences, especially, in the past two years so Janice Tobin RN, alias Sally Brown, Charlie Brown’s little sister, offered to be his advocate and Health Care Proxy.
In his last week with us, Daniel was heard saying “it is amazing to see how (God’s) hand works…it is a blessing to have people gather around you to help support you, to get things further, to further the mystery of this life.” “That’s why spontaneous prayer is a good thing”. And, “Remember the eyes of the boy in the Maypo commercials?” as he looked forward to every bite of food offered.
Thanks to all who were involved in his care over the past 2 months and, especially, Dr Joel Wolkowicz and close friends who visited him frequently. His funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church Plattsburgh, NY on February 15, 2022 at 11 am.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. (518) 561-3980. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
