Darwin L Martino

d. August 21, 2013

Plattsburgh Martino, Darwin L., of Cross Road in Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on May 1, 1944, the son of the late George R. Martineau and Mabel Martineau. Darwin's source of pride was that of his family, the one he was born into and the one he created with his late wife, Mary J. Martino. He was the definition of "Role Model" to his children. With guidance and love he set the standard for qualities such as kindness, caring, loyalty, honesty, and respect. It is a legacy of love that cannot be taken even in death. It lends us grace and gives us courage. Darwin had a passion for working in his garage and loved to hunt and fish. He worked for many years as a supervisor at Plattco and took pride in his work. Of all accomplishments, Darwin's greatest achievements have been in the lives of his family and friends. He had a unique gift to recognize and appreciate the talents in others and to make them feel loved and lifted by his presence. His creative and crafty mind, kind heart and unconditional love allowed him to make everything from family gatherings, to a simple story told to the grandchildren sparkle. His generous heart filled his home with love, fun, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more. He leaves all his children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved. His generosity to all who had the pleasure in sharing his life will always be remembered. Without Darwin, our hearts are broken and our tears endless, but our memories and joys are immeasurable. His laughter and smile will never leave our memories. We will continue to see Darwin in the beauty and personalities of his four grandchildren. We have cherished every second spent with him. Darwin leaves behind on earth his children, Darwin G. Martino, Tammy Collins and her husband John Collins, and Maryann Joyner and her husband Brooks Joyner; his granddaughters, Ashley Moncrief, Marlena Martino, Jessica Kramer and Samantha Collins; his brother, Ugene Martineau; and many nieces and nephews. His wife Mary J. Martino; his parents George and Mabel Martineau; his brothers Harold Martineau, Daniel Martineau, Gordon Martineau, and Ronald Martineau; and his sister Laura Reil, Isabelle Chamberlain and Mildred Brown predecease him. Family will receive friends Friday, August 23, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
