David H. Berglund, 63, of Ellenburg Depot, NY passed away peacefully with his daughters and wife by his side on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the UVM-CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Rochester, NY, on December 30, 1958 the son of Robert and Elinor (Hubbard) Berglund.
Dave was 1 of 7 children. He grew up outside of Rochester, in Wayland, NY. He attended Wayland Central and bravely went on to follow his father and older brother’s footsteps in joining the Marine Corps, where he served from 1979-1983. Dave moved to Plattsburgh, NY after his honorable discharge and worked as a mall security guard, where he met his children’s mother. Just prior to his eldest daughter’s birth, Dave began his lifelong career at what is currently known as John’s Manville, for what would have been 37 years, with many of those being Maintenance Supervisor. In 2006, Dave met his loving wife, Betsy, whom he married on March 1st, 2014, blending their family of 4 children. Dave was an active member of his community through the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619, where he served as the Commander.
Dave loved the outdoors; camping, hunting, long walks around the field with his dogs, tractor rides with his grandchildren, and enjoying a few cold ones on the back deck. Dave had a tremendous love for animals, especially his dogs, and though he may not have publicly admitted, his cats as well. Dave was a dedicated family man who would drop everything to come to the aid of his family and friends, whom he also considered family.
He is survived by his wife, Betsy (Whelden) Berglund; His daughters Deidra (Justin) Patnode of Colonie, Ny; Felicia (Christopher) Hills of Plattsburgh, NY; His Stepchildren Chantay (Jeffrey Cowling) Knapp of West Chazy, NY; Cody (Chantel) Whelden of Ellenburg Depot, NY; Sisters Cherie (Terry) Phelps of Bloomington, IN; Janice (Norman) Yohon, of Wayland, NY; Sharon Jackson of Cornell, NY; Brother Robert (Theresa) Berglund of Inverness, FL; Stepbrother Chuck Bardeen of Canandaigua, NY; 9 grandchildren Lilian, Noella, Bria, Hallie, Memphis, Chance, Landon, Brody, and Hartley; brothers-in-law; Marshall, George, Allen Whelden and their families; Best friend Rob Stefaniak of Plattsburgh, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
