Altona David J. Thume, 62, of Diamond Way, Altona, NY, passed away on Monday November 21, 2016 at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Fort Ann, NY on June 1, 1954 the son of John and Sylvia (Osborne) Thume. David graduated from Beekmantown Central School in 1972. He then went on to work at Imperial Wallcovering in Plattsburgh and later Coburn Insurance in Burlington, VT, before working in the maintenance department at Chazy Central Rural School. After retiring from Chazy School in 2015 he spent his time wood working, skiing with the Pump House Gang at Whiteface, golfing and hunting. David enjoyed family dinners on Sunday where he received the title "Grill Master", traveling with his family, especially to NASCAR events as well as New Smyrna Beach with his wife. Most recently he helped his sons build their homes and in return was given the affectionate title "Big Bub" by his boys. David was a member of Holy Angels Church in Altona, where he volunteered at the harvest dinners, BINGO on Tuesdays, a Eucharistic Minister and helped with the collection. He was predeceased by his father John Thume, a sister Patti Kivett and his father-in-law Robert Squier. David is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Christine Thume, they were married on June 28, 1974 at St. Mary's of the Lake Church, his mother Sylvia Thume of Plattsburgh, his sons; Nathaniel Thume his wife Jennifer of Plattsburgh, Gabriel Thume and his wife Jana of Altona, and Elijah Thume and his wife Brittany of Altona, a granddaughter Chloe Thume, sister, MaryAnne Gaul and her husband Greg of Port Kent, a brother, Stephen Thume and his wife Kathi of Altona, NY, a brother-in-law Michael Kivett of Plattsburgh, his mother-in-law Betty Squier of Plattsburgh, his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; Craig Squier of Plattsburgh and Michael Squier of VT, several nieces and nephews and his furry friend grand dogs also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Friday November 25, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 26, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Holy Angels Church in Altona, NY. Donations in David's memory may be made to Holy Angels Church.
