David J Vivian

d. December 23, 2017

It is with our deepest regrets that we announce the passing of Major David J. Vivian. On the 23rd of August 1943, David was delivered to Ruth and George Vivian in Bangor, Maine. The family moved to New Haven, Connecticut where David was raised until being accepted at Watkins Private High school in Hartford Connecticut. David furthered his education, receiving his Master's degree at Davis Elkins College in W. Virginia. After earning his degree, David joined the Air Force and flew the C-141 Starlifter transporting supplies to troops during the Vietnam War. Later in his career, David was stationed in Plattsburgh, where he piloted the FB-111. David was the first person to log a thousand hours in the pilot seat, an achievement he was extremely proud of. While stationed in Plattsburgh, David met the love of his life, Delores. Together they set off on numerous adventures, traveling to exotic destinations, learning new hobbies, and raising their family. David taught Delores and the kids golf, one of his favorite pastimes. We'll never forget our family outings on the golf course, filled with incredible memories of love, laughter, and the occasional disagreement. Our family loved golf so much, David purchased the 9-hole golf course from the closing Air Force Base, after his retirement. David dreamed big and renamed the golf course to The Barracks, and expanded it to 18 holes in a few years. David loved nothing more than going to the course and spending time with all the golfers, who he thought of as his extended family. We are all so saddened by the loss of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. We invite all of you to join us in saying goodbye and celebrate his life. Calling hours will be Thursday, December 28th, 2017, from 4pm-7pm at the Brown Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be Friday, December 29th, 2017, at 10:00 am at St. Peters Church. In lieu flowers, donations may be made to Elmore SPCA, P.O. Box 686, Peru, NY 12972 www.Elmoraspca.org. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York 12901 (518) 561-3980. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
