Dennis Alan Mcguire

Dennis Alan McGuire, 82, passed away Saturday November 20, 2021 at his home. He was born in the Bronx on October 22, 1939 the son of Grant and Elizabeth (D’Imperio) McGuire.

Dennis attended elementary school on York Avenue in NYC. He graduated from Valley Stream Central High School on Long Island. Following high school, Dennis joined the Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Korea and Japan. After he was honorably discharged, he continued his education at Plattsburgh State University earning a BS degree in social studies education.

Dennis started teaching at Dannemora State Hospital in 1965. He then became Education Supervisor. He retired from Clinton Correctional as Deputy Superintendent of Program Services in 1994.

Dennis enjoyed his travels abroad, especially to England and Italy. He was always a real history buff- watching many TV shows and historical documentaries especially pertaining to WWII.

Dennis also enjoyed spending time out on the boat with his family engaging in water skiing, fishing, and snorkeling.

He always planted a “pepper” garden including jalapenos and cherry peppers. One year, 37 quarts of peppers were canned! His tomatoes from the garden were always delicious with fresh basil. Dennis was an excellent cook without using recipes.

Dennis married Linda Maria Winslow in June 1965 in Stony Creek, NY right after his graduation from Plattsburgh State University. He and Linda were married for 55 years.

He is predeceased by his parents and wife.

He is survived by his daughters Laura (Steve) Miller of Fletcher, NC, Karla McGuire of Fishkill, NY and his son Mark (Angela) McGuire of North Chatham, NY. Dennis is also survived by his grandchildren Emily Miller, Sophia Dominicis, Mila McGuire, and Madden McGuire.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made to the Elmore SPCA or The Wounded Warriors Project.
