PLATTSBURGH --- Mr. Desmond Clifford Racicot, known to family and friends as "Red" passed away on July 16, 2014 at his home in Plattsburgh. Desmond was 74 years old. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on March 20, 1940, the son of John "Jack" and Helen Eileen (Green) Racicot. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, wood working and spending time with his family, grandchildren and many cats. He was a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything. Desmond grew up in Rouses Point, N.Y., his father was a Judge and his mother a homemaker. Desmond enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958. He served his country for six years, spending time overseas in Korea. Desmond began working for the Plattsburgh Housing Authority in 1964 and served there for a decade before he was injured on the job. Desmond was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jack Racicot (New Jersey), his sister Margaret "Peggy" (Racicot) Roco and her husband Jose. His beloved wife, Gloria Jean (Moore) Racicot passed away more than 20 years ago. They were married for 30 years from November 10, 1962 until Gloria's death on October 11, 1993. He is survived by his three children, Tina (Racicot) Tucker, her husband Richard and their children Richard, Ariel and Nathan all of Plattsburgh; Tammy (Racicot) Hester, her husband Perry and their children Carrie and Eric of Abilene, Texas; Desmond J. Racicot, his wife Stephanie and their twin daughters Toby and Grace. He is also survived by his older brother Robert "Bobby" Racicot, his wife Mary and many nieces and nephews. Red is survived by his long-time companion, Kathy Underwood. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Sue Moore of Plattsburgh, their son Larry Junior, his wife Renee and their children Natalie and Gianna (Albany, NY) also survive him. The family would like to thank Dr. Glenn Schroyer, Thomas Gavin and the staff at Plattsburgh Medical Care, along with Dr. Robert Sofferman, Dr. Damon Silverman and the late Dr. Steven Grunberg along with their offices at Fletcher Allen Health Care for all of the care they gave to Desmond. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday July 21 at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church on South Catherine Street in Plattsburgh on July 22 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Rouses Point, N.Y.
