Donald Richard Byrd

Donald Richard Byrd, 74, of Mill Street, Lyon Mountain, NY, passed away on November 28, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on July 10, 1935 in Norfolk, VA. the son of Paul and Jo Doris (Riggs) Byrd. After graduating from Churchville High School in VA he served in the Navy and Air Force for 22years. He was a ship mechanic in the Navy. In the Air Force he was an airplane mechanic and also worked production control. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Don was predeceased by his parents, two sisters Dorothy Coffey and Deloris Watt and a brother Paul Joe Byrd. He has been happily married to his wife Erma G. Bright Byrd for over 52 years. He is survived by a daughter Bonnie and son-in-law Vic Gero from Altona and a son Bill Byrd and a daughter-in-law Lynn Byrd from Lyon Mountain. Five grandchildren Christine Gero, Steven Gero, Jennie Chinchilla and her husband Miguel, Heidi Brassard and her husband Chris and Kim Gero. Six great grandchildren; Austin Lafountain, Nathalia Chinchilla, Ethan Lafountain, Kameron Chinchilla, Alexia Brassard and Sadie Gero. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday December 1, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home in Lyon Mountain. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, burial will in the Lyon Mountain Methodist Cemetery.
