Donald F. Gertsch, 79, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Saturday October 15, 2022 at The Essex Center in Elizabethtown, NY. He was born in Plattsburgh on February 28, 1943 the son of Donald P. and Dorothy (Fuller) Gertsch.
He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1960, attended SUNY Plattsburgh graduating with a BS in Education. Donald was a third baseman for the Cardinals and a member of Delta Kappa Delta Fraternity. He continued his education and became a NYS Certified Alcohol Counselor in 1990. Donald had many jobs throughout his life. He taught social studies at Peru Central School. He was a Jobs Recruiter at JCEO, was a counselor at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center in Saranac Lake, and finished his career as a counselor for the Dept. of Corrections in Malone.
Donald enjoyed reading, fishing, rooting for the NY Yankees and NY Giants, as well as ranting about Donald Trump.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Donald is survived by a brother Robert Gertsch and his wife Susan of Plattsburgh, a sister, Mary Gertsch Cochran and her husband Jeffery of Plattsburgh, four nieces and nephews; Heather (Mike) Armstrong, Kyle (Kendra ) Gertsch, Bevan (Laura) Gertsch-Cochran and Genevieve (Josh) Gertsch-Cochran, great nieces and nephew; Cierra Armstrong, Alexandria Armstrong, Adalyn Marie Gertsch, Casen Gertsch and Josephine Baker also survive him.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
