Donald A. Ireland, 88, of Plattsburgh, NY died on Friday October 4, 2013 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on April 11, 1925 the son of Arthur and Isabel (Seymour) Ireland. Donald graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in 1943; joined the army and served in the European and Pacific Theater, during World War II and was discharged in 1946. He went on to college at New York University graduating in 1949. Donald returned to Plattsburgh and was called back to serve his country during the Korean Conflict in 1951. He married the love of his life Mary Margaret at St. John's Church on July 24, 1954. Donald began a career in finance in 1959, retiring from Paine Webber in 1993. He and Mary Margaret traveled extensively for the next twenty years. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post, St. John's Church, former member of the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary Club and Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, and spending time with his family. Donald was predeceased by his parents, his siblings and their spouses; Dwyer (Bertha) Ireland, Robert (Caroline) Ireland, Kathryn (Bill) Rizzo and Jean (Jack) O'Connor, a granddaughter; Margaret Mary Tolosky and his in-laws; Jack (Maggie) Pearl, Jane Pearl and Tom Pearl. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Margaret Ireland of Plattsburgh, six children; Thomas (Barbara) Ireland of Glenmont, NY, Michael Ireland of Burlington, VT, David Ireland of Burlington, VT, Mary Lee Ireland of Plattsburgh, Margaret (Matthew) Tolosky of Plattsburgh and John Ireland of Burlington, VT, seven grandchildren; Michael, Matthew, Caitlin, Ryan and Sean Ireland, Joseph and Jack Tolosky, two great grandchildren; Marah and Mason Ryan, several nieces and nephews also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Sunday October 6, 2013 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday October 7, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
