Donald Rothermel

Mr.Donald E. Rothermel, of Cumberland Head, Plattsburgh, New York passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018 in his home. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on September 4, 1933, the son of J. Howard and Sally (Nugent) Rothermel. Donald graduated from St. John's High School and later graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a degree in Business Management and Environmental Science. He served in the U.S. army and was honorably discharged in 1958. He was employed as a teller at Merchant's National Bank and Key Bank. Donald retired from Texaco in 1977 and from the New York State Department of Corrections in 1998. Donald married Veronica (Ronnie) LaJoie June 28, 1958 at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. They had two children, Patti Joy and Peggy Ann (Mark Allan Neal, Sr.). Eight grandchildren, Jason Nye (Elena), Sean Nye, Amanda Neal, Mark Neal, Jr., Alexander Neal, Isaiah Neal, Riccarda Dore and Anna Neal. Great-grandchildren, Aiden Nye, Grace Neal, Carter Neal and Legend Neal and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Patti Joy, in-laws, Nelson and Nellie LaJoie, Aurore LaJoie, Valeda Shatraw, Theresa LaPointe, Rita Dugan, Lawrence LaJoie, and Frances Latinville. An avid fisherman and hunter, he belonged to the Black Brook Pond Sportsman's Club. Calling hours will be at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, NY, Friday, November 30, 2018, between 2-4pm.
