Donald B Shaw

Altona Donald B. Shaw, 61 of Irona Road, Altona, NY passed away on Sunday August 16, 2009 at his home. He was born in Altona, NY on October 22, 1947 the son of William and Dora (Baker) Shaw. Donald graduated from Altona Central School and soon after joined the United States Army, serving from 1968 to 1981. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran receiving two Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. Donald was a member of the V.F.W. post 125 in Plattsburgh. He was an avid fisherman and Yankees Fan. Donald enjoyed playing lotto scratch off tickets and spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren. Donald was predeceased by his parents, his father-in-law, Ernest Barcomb, Sr., a brother Floyd Shaw and two sisters; Delia Gilman and Bertha Page. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Diana Shaw, two children Scott Shaw and his wife Debra of Ellenburg Center, NY and April Smith and her husband Travis of Altona, NY. Four grandchildren; Heather and Wyatt Shaw and Kourtnee and Kody Smith. Four sisters; Mary Page, Catherine Fifield, Eleanor Ratta, Valeda Kettle. Two brothers; Harold Shaw and his wife Nancy, Robert Shaw and his wife Susan and an aunt Anna Meseck. A mother-in-law Marcella Barcomb, two brothers-in-laws; Ernest Barcomb, Jr. and Dale Barcomb and his wife Sherry and three sisters-in-law Tammy Barcomb and her companion George Burleigh, Laurie Garlock and her husband Roger, and Betty Smith and her husband Francis. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday August 19, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona, NY. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.
