Mrs. Donna Jane Conant (née Burgess), of Plattsburgh, New York, passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the age of 89.
Donna was born to parents Alphonse and Isabelle Burgess on January 21, 1932 in Plattsburgh, NY. She grew up as an only child. Because she lacked siblings, during her childhood, Donna was close to all her cousins. She was especially fond of her cousin June Martin and friend Theresa Hall who felt like sisters to her. Donna attended D'Youville Academy Catholic School (St. Peter's).
In the 1950's, Donna worked at Beverly Pearl Women's Fashions and J.C. Penney as a fashion salesclerk. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Roger W. Conant. She then became a homemaker and raised two children with Roger.
Donna was always a dog lover who became very fond of the American Eskimo breed, of which she owned three over the years. Donna did volunteer work at Clinton County Nursing Home and was a member of PALS/Newcomers Club in Plattsburgh. Donna's favorite vacation spot was Ogunquit, Maine. When given an opportunity, she was always happy to provide tourist information to others and encourage them to visit there. Donna and Roger moved to Set Point Condominiums after his retirement. In recent years, their neighbors became like family to them. Donna greatly cherished the friendships she had developed there.
Donna is survived by her husband Roger W. Conant; her son, Roger A. (Rod) Conant; her daughter, Haila J. Conant and husband Donald C. Moore; Melissa and Nicolas Moore, who came to call her “Grandma”; also her cousins Marty & Josée Beauharnois, Gary & Nereida Beauharnois, Gail Besaw and Tommy & Patty Beauharnois. She is predeceased by Terry Besaw, her aunt Helene LeClair, her parents Alponse and Isabelle Burgess, grandparents, several aunts and uncles as well as departed friends from the Anthony's Friday Night Gang.
The family wishes to thank all the staff of Meadowbrook Healthcare, especially those in the Oakwoods unit who gave her the best care a family could ask for. Throughout her three years there, Donna always remarked at how well she was treated and how fond she was of all her caregivers. This was especially comforting when the staff had to stand in for her family during the 2020 pandemic lockdown.
Arrangements will be made by Brown Funeral Home. At her request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elmore SPCA in Peru.
