Doris Elene Rury

Doris Elene Rury, 86, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the UVM-CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh on October 2, 1935 the daughter of Charles and Hildred (Devins) Manor.
In 1953, Doris graduated from Peru Central School and Samaritan School of Nursing in 1956. She worked as an Operating Room Nurse for 19 years in varying hospitals, including Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY, Nassaunt Hospital in Chicago, IL, and CVPH Physician Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY.
She married John Rury, MD in 1969. Together they visited 30 states on tours, and cruises to Baltic States, Caribbean, Panama, Alaska, as well as visiting Australia and New Zealand.
Doris was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, where she volunteered for many years at the school and church. She was also a member of Senior Fitness Classes for 25 years, CVPH Wellness Center and CVPH Woman’s Auxiliary and a volunteer for 25 years. She was an avid golfer and bowler, a past member of Bluff Point Ladies League Barracks- Senior Golf Club and bowled with the Peru Ladies and Former Happy Seniors. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery, gardening and watching Yankee Baseball.
She is survived by her two children, Michael of Lee, NH and Rebecca (Jason) Ayotte of Youngsville, NC, 3 granddaughters, Amelia Rury and Reina and Abigail Ayotte, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, John, sister, Joyce Hamilton and special Aunt Roberta Lamoy.
Visitation will be Sunday, February, 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday February 7, 2022 at St. Peter’s Church.
Entombment will follow at the Plattsburgh Community Mausoleum.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Shriner’s Children Hospital.
