It is with tremendous sadness that we share the death of Doris Ann Skeen May 20, 2022 in the evening after a beautiful sunny day. Doris was born on April 13, 1936 to Frederick and Lucia Missall in Staten Island, New York.
Doris grew up in a happy home with her parents, who loved each other very much, and her older brother Reynold whom she adored. On May 23, 1945 her sweet daddy died. This was a difficult time for Lucia and her children. Lucia found love again with a Staten Island policeman who knew Doris for many years as a crossing guard and called her “Duckie”. Leonard Berg married Lucia, and Reynold and Doris had three other brothers: Leonard Jr, Bradford and William. We know Mom loved her dad and brothers deeply, always.
On May 31, 1958 Doris married William J. Skeen. Together they had three daughters, Patricia, Carol and Laura. Their beloved daughter Patti died October 17, 1978. She was nineteen. Patti’s death changed the entire family. However, Bill and Doris’ strength and deep faith in God kept their family intact. The love they had for their daughters was immeasurable.
Doris stayed at home with her daughters for their early years. When she did start to work outside of her home she always made many friends along the way.
Bill and Doris left Tallman New York in 1987 and moved to Lake Placid. She had great friends and endured the cold. Three times a week she would walk around Mirror Lake. To this day, this still amazes us. When Carol and her children, Kim and Keith moved to Lake Placid in 1989, Bill and Doris kept their grandchildren overnight a couple times a week. To this day, Carol is forever grateful and Kim and Keith have many memories that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
In 1997, Bill and Doris moved to Boynton Beach Florida. They were again close by to many of their friends and family, including Reynold. Carol and Laura missed them very much, but had many happy visits to Florida. We know Mom and Dad were so happy to help out their grandson Dylan when he was in town. They spoke fondly of that special time with him. Even though it was difficult, they also made many trips north, to see their girls, family and friends.
Bill died March 16, 2014. Doris, Carol and Laura were together by his side to comfort him.
In November 2014, Doris moved north to Plattsburgh, New York. She knew it was time. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease before Bill had died. She showed courage again and left her good friends and family so that her daughters could care for her as she continued her life at the Vilias Home.
Doris lived the last years of her life at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was loved and well cared for by the lovely staff. Her family truly appreciated their professionalism, especially through Covid.
Doris unfortunately died alone, but that is not a measure of how deeply she was loved and will forever be missed.
Doris was predeceased by her loving and faithful husband Bill, her precious daughter Patti, her fathers Fred and Len, her always caring brothers Lenny, Brad and Billy, brothers-in-law Jimmy and Bob, sisters in law Virginia, Bea and Barbara, her parents and Bill’s parents Dewel and Virginia, niece Lynn and great niece Jenna.
Left to survive Doris in grief are her daughters Carol and Laura, brother Reynold (Marcia), nephews Fred and Dave, niece Laurel and their families, son-in-law Donnie , grandchildren Donald (Mandy), Dylan (Sarah), Kayla (Peter), Kimberly (Patrick), Keith, Natalie (Nicholas) and Emma, great grandchildren Travis, Tanner, Eloise and Henry, many other extended family and friends especially the California Skeens Jim, Jeff, Mark their beloved mom Lenora and their families, Marlene and her daughter June, Jim, Carol, Terry and her husband Gene and daughter Tanya, Jesse, Claudia, Claire, Bobby and Lori, Joanne and her children Steven, Susan, Janice and their families, nephew and nieces Lenny, Laurie and Kathy and their families, and lifelong best friend Elise.
There will be no calling hours. Doris will be put to rest along side Bill and Patti later this summer. Sleep peacefully Mom. We will miss you forever.
