Douglas P. Begor, 77, of Peru, passed Saturday, November 5, 2022 at his home under the care of Hospice of the North Country with his loving family by his side. He was born in Lyon Mountain on May 1, 1945 the son of Fred and Edith (Cook) Begor.
Doug served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1967. He served in The Old Guard before transferring to another unit to be a cook and was honorably discharged. Doug remained a proud veteran his entire life with a great love for the United States flag. During his military career, he had the privilege of standing guard in Arlington Cemetery and also cooked once for President Johnson. After life in the Army, Doug became a NYS Corrections Officer and retired from Altona Correctional Facility. He wasn’t the type to just sit around though and found joy in keeping busy with various other jobs during his retirement. Dad’s most favorite thing in life though was his family, near or far. He had the gift of bringing people together, making them laugh and making them feel like they were the most special to him.
Doug is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Edith. He was the youngest of 11, many who have passed before him: Lee, Marion, Barbara, Betty, Vera, Phyllis, Howard, and Thomas (Tom).
He is survived by the love of his life and soulmate of 48 years, Frances Begor (Labarge), his daughter, Valerie Trombly and her husband Scott of Plattsburgh, his daughter Holly Plumadore and her husband Lee of Clayburg, his son (and best friend) Joseph Begor and his wife Laura of Peru, his grandchildren; Hillari, Mychelle, Kasey, Cody, Rebecca, Allison, Parker, Eli, Joshuwa, Willow and his great-grandchildren; Trent, Emma, Jayden, Ivan, Maverick and Oliver. Doug is also survived by siblings, Terry Begor of Alaska and Joan (Olive) Noel of Iowa as well as MANY nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.
