Dwight J Smart

Altona Mr. Dwight J. Smart, 48, of the Duley Road, Altona, New York passed away suddenly Monday, August 26, 2013 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on May 27, 1965 the son of Carlton and Hortense "Hope" (Miller) Smart. Dwight was employed at Rusty Creek Farm. He enjoyed cooking for parties, camping, producing maple syrup, putting on fireworks display, and jokingly harassing family and friends. Dwight was predeceased by his father, his paternal grandparents Emery and Edwina "Granny" Smart and his maternal grandparents Emmett and Emma Miller. He is survived by his wife Jacqulin "Jackie" Smart of Altona, his mother Hortense "Hope" Smart of Altona, his stepchildren, Michelle Drollette and her husband Emmett of Plattsburgh, Frances Minckler and her husband Scott of Ocala, FL, Rebecca Chauvin and her husband Andre of Plattsburgh, a sister, Sandra Layhee and her husband Richard of Dannemora, two brothers; Dwayne Smart and his wife Melanie of Altona, David Smart and his wife Kelly of Altona, his uncle Lyman "Gilbert" Miller and his wife Shirley of Chazy Lake, his step grandchildren, Montana, Thomas, Hailee, Zachary, Kellen, Aidan, Wyatt and Liam, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive him. Calling hours will be Friday, August 30, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York 12901. A funeral service will follow with the Rev. Gilbert Boisvert officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Angels Church. Interment will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery.
