Surrounded by his loving family, Edgar Charles “Chuck” Sholette, of Plattsburgh, NY, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 4th, at the age of 92. Born February 18th, 1931, in Ogdensburg, NY, to Edward and Mona Sholette, Chuck has been a devoted servant of, not only God, but his family and community. Whether during his education at Le Moyne College, and SUNY Plattsburgh, serving his country in the Korean War, or his 28 years as a devoted New York State Trooper, Chuck has spent his life in constant service to others; living by the words of his cherished prayer: “where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon” (St. Francis of Assisi). Even in his off time, and years of retirement, Chuck was an active part of his community, donating much of his time and money to charitable organizations, and taking great pride in helping those around him; even if their acquaintance was made only in passing. While an avid sports fan, cheering on the Bills, Expos, and Notre Dame Football teams for almost his entire life, Chuck always said that his greatest joy was being an active grandfather for his grandson; teaching him everything from how to walk, to the “mouth trombone,” and beyond. Chuck was loved and cherished by his family, friends, and community. He will be dearly missed. Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (Peggy), to whom he was devoted in marriage for over 55 years, his children; Alyssa Sholette (Boulder, Colorado), Brian Sholette (Idaho); and his beloved grandson, Alexander Caruthers (Sorengo, Switzerland). He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mona Sholette (Ogdensburg, NY), sister, Theresa Ladouceur (Ogdensburg, NY), and brother, Edward “Ed” Sholette (Cherry Hill, NJ). Visitation will be Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 11:00am-1:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow in the chapel therein. A funeral Mass will take place in St John's church on Tuesday February 13th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Signal 30 Benefit Fund at https://signal30.org/ so as to honor the memory of Chuck’s 28 years of outstanding service in the New York State Police, and help care for his fellow officers; for whom he had nothing but respect and admiration.
