Edward J Bleeker

Edward "Ed" J. Bleeker, 84, of Maine Road, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on November 4, 1929 the son of Edward F. and Helen (Murphy) Bleeker. Ed graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1948. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning from the war, he enrolled at Plattsburgh State University, where he majored in education and was a member of the college soccer team. While there he met Patricia Callahan whom he married on April 22, 1957 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, NY. Ed taught Junior High Science for 28 years, retiring from Chazy Central Rural School in 1984. He was active in union negotitations. He was also on the board of education for the Plattsburgh City School District. Ed was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 125, St. John's Church and enjoyed going to the family camp on Chazy Lake. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Helen Donah and a grandson Christopher Allen. Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years Patricia Bleeker, four children; Susan Bleeker of Plattsburgh, Carol King and her husband Bill of Plattsburgh, Pamela Allen and her husband Todd of Webster, NY and Jay Bleeker and his wife Kryn of Plattsburgh, nine grandchildren; Trevor, Aaron, and Bethany Waite, Jericho and Gabrielle King, Daniel and Matthew Allen and Grace and Sofia Bleeker. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Divine Mercy Cemetery on Cumberland Head later in the year. Donations in Ed's memory may be made to Seton Academy or Alzheimer's Research.
