Plattsburgh Mrs. Elizabeth J. "Betty" McKinnon, 78, formerly of McKinley Avenue and most recently of Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Plattsburgh on March 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Clarence and Marion (Rougier) Macey. Betty served in the U.S. Air Force as a Sergeant and had the honor of meeting President Eisenhower while in the service. She was later employed as a retail clerk until retiring to become a homemaker. She was a past member of the Champlain Valley Quilters Guild and served on the Our Lady of Victory Altar-Rosary Society. She spent her time sewing quilts for family, friends and charity. Betty also loved sewing, knitting, crochet and daily crossword puzzles. She is survived by three children, , Michael J. and Gina McKinnon of Plattsburgh, Karla and Leonard Strauss of Plattsburgh, and Carl R. McKinnon of Morrisonville; a brother and sister in law: Ronald and Eleanor Macey of Florida, a sister and brother in law; Janet and Donald Parrott of Vermont, her brothers in law and sisters-in-law, Paul and Barbara McKinnon of N.C , Joan Ferrell , Arlene and Paul Clark, Lois Maskley of New Jersey, her beloved grandson, Aric Strauss and his companion Erin Pangborn, also Matthew McKinnon and Brandon McKinnon, all of Plattsburgh, a great granddaughter; Leah McKinnon; a very dear and close family friend; Ryan Ficcicilo whom she considered a grandson through love, and many nieces , nephews and close friends. Her husband of 46 years, Carl A. McKinnon passed away May 13, 2001. A sister, Helen (Tyrell) Macey also passed away earlier. She often said "I am so tired of hurting, I wish the pain would go away". It is now gone, and she is now in a wonderful place that we each hope to be in someday. In accordance with Betty's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St, Plattsburgh, NY 12901. (518) 561-3980.
