Elmer R Agnew Sr

Elmer R. Agnew, Sr. 88, of Mason Street in Morrisonville, passed away and went home to the Lord on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH with family by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on September 15, 1932, the son of the late Napolean and Melvina (Soulia) Agnew. He was the husband of 56 years to Wanita (Frenyea) Agnew who passed away in 2009.
While working as miner in Mineville, NY he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. He served his country by fighting in the Korean Conflict where he was awarded several medals of honor. After an honorable discharge from the Army, , he married and married and started his career of 32 years at Clinton Correctional Facility as a painter, a trade he had learned from his beloved father.
In more recent years, in addition to spending time with family, Elmer enjoyed “donating” his time and a lot of money to various local casinos as well as sharing a family breakfast with his favorite waitresses and patrons of Ron’s Corner Restaurant.
Elmer is survived by his children and their spouses; Deborah and Christopher Ohlsen of Mountain View, NY, Elmer “Buck” Agnew, Jr. of Peru, Peter Agnew and his life partner Michele Harling of Plattsburgh, Terri and Tom Hemingway of Champlain, Frank Agnew of Morrisonville, and Michele Agnew and her life companion Patrick Verrillo of Morrisonville,, 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister; Elizabeth carter of Plattsburgh, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Wanita Agnew, his parents, his brothers; James (Charles) Agnew and Edward Agnew, a sister; Alice Austin, and a granddaughter Shannon Ohlsen.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
