MOUNTAIN LAKES, NJ Eloise "Ellie" K. (nee Stephens) Maddox died Friday, June 19, 2009, at St. Clare's Hospital/Denville following a long illness. She was 88. Born in Blockton, Alabama, she lived in Winston-Salem, NC, for 13 years, then Redondo Beach, CA, for 5 years before moving to Mountain Lakes in 1965. Mrs. Maddox was the secretary/receptionist for Dr. Anthony J. Boni in Mountain Lakes for 37 years before retiring in 2007. She was also a licensed realtor with Mountain Lakes Realty for a number of years. During World War II, she was a civilian employee with the U.S. Marine Corps. She was active and held a number of offices with the Women's Club of Winston-Salem while living there. She was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the Peace Pipe Country Club, Denville and played in the Ladies Golf League at Picatinny Arsenel. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Herbert D. Maddox; a daughter, Sandra A. Maddox of Morrisonville, NY; a son, David C. Maddox of Martha's Vineyard, MA; three brothers, Oakus R. Stephens, Jr. of Orlando, FL, Robert O. Watson of Memphis, TN and Ira G. Stephens of Dickson, TN; two grandsons, James P. Dolan and Lawrence C. Dolan and a great grandson, Gabriel Dolan. Calling hours will be held Tuesday June 23, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Services will be held Wednesday June 24, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in Ellie's memory may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society or Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter in Hanover, NJ.
